The original Kurri Golf Club, a nine hole course, was established in 1930 on leased private property in Avery's Lane, Heddon Greta. The golf course was relocated to its present location in 1953 when a nine hole course was built on what is now the back nine holes. A small timber framed clubhouse was built on the site of the present clubhouse.
The existing golf course was part of a 99-year Crown Lease (granted in the early 1950s). The Board of Directors in the early 1970s decided to purchase the land from the Crown and the decision made to expand to an 18-hole course.
In 1999, the Annual General Meeting of Kurri Golf Club Limited adopted a new Club Constitution which addressed the antidiscrimination laws in place at the time, which gave all lady members full membership rights. The mural is a message of thanks to Jack for his continued promotion of the game of golf. Jack was a very successful amateur and a professional golfer who achieved success throughout the world. Unfortunately Jack's accident cut short his professional golfing career but did not dent his love and dedication of the game.
Jack set up the now famous Jack Newton Junior Golf Foundation. Since its inception, the foundation has provided junior golfers with a structured coaching and playing program.
