Reflection

Reflection depicts three timelines: past, present and future existing as one. The artwork is an overlayed map of dual histories with a focus on Aboriginal culture.

Inspired by trade and movement along Cooks River, mural imagery features middens, marine life, canoes, footprints and tools. Marine life also includes local fish, oysters (bidhiinja), mud crabs, octopus (djunga), eel (bara) and dugongs. These animals tell creation and seasonal stories from different clan groups along the river including Bara (eel) for the Darug people and Wurridjal (mullet) for the Cadigal, with fishing hooks made from hair, sinew and shells.

This mural is a direct response to important insights and local knowledge imparted by local Elder and knowledge holder Aunty Barb Simms, with further information about the river available on the plaque. The artwork borders the northern edge of Dharaggang Park
