Nestled within the vibrant heart of Balmain, this mural celebrates the suburb's spirit through its people, offering a glimpse into their daily lives. A contemporary and lively scene of local everyday life unfolds, with the War Memorial prominently featured as a central thoroughfare and meeting point.
The larger-than-life figures, painted with a 'brushed' style, convey movement and character. The mural's colours reflect the nearby harbour and sky, green symbolising the vegetation, and warm oranges evoking the earth.
This artwork celebrates Balmain's diverse community and showcases the rich tapestry of life that makes this suburb unique. The characters of the artwork were modelled through photos taken by Joe Kennedy, who reference local community members going about their day to day activities.
The work was commissioned by Woolworths Metro for their Balmain store.
