A portrait of a local gym community member Lauren and people in the pursuit of exercise, the work was commissioned for At Ruben's (now At 137 Health Club) as part of the Perfect Match program.
I really love to respond with imagery that is derived from the local community. The images start with taking photographs, giving me a chance to build a personal relationship with the people of the area.
This building houses a local gym. Themes central to the gym, pushing past mental and physical barriers, as well as working hard, is reflected here in the artwork.
The background colours are vibrant and eye-catching, juxtaposed against the realistic and extremely rendered out depictions of local gym individuals. This artwork is a celebration of this dynamic community. The lady featured is a gym instructor and local community member.
