Future Nostalgia by Olas One | Street Art NSW

This artwork is an abstract concept with layers of meaning, textures inspired by the local area and Marrickville's history, this piece dances with time. Industry, grungey, graffiti textures in the background give an urban feel, grounding us in the present time and locality as we know it. Underneath my hand, Bauhaus-inspired water ripple effects nod to the history of Marrickville's geography - formerly swamp land.

The mural behaves as a portal paradox, playing with different timestamps and two distinct eras in Marrickville's history—what is now, and what was, still is.

The hand is my right hand, which is my painting hand, representing a full circle moment for me as an artist who was inspired by street art in the Inner West 20 years ago. 20 years from now, what will have changed? How will we interpret the artwork then?

This piece reminds us that change is the only constant, and total is tomorrow's dust—and all we ever have is this present moment, and our memory will do its best to hold onto it, or ultimately—move on.
