Spotter's Tower

John Dorahy

Spotter's Tower by John Dorahy | Street Art NSW

The Spotter's Tower was originally located on this site. It was built to give a warning signal to the residents of Abermain and more particularly the miners in the event of an invasion by aircraft. The tower also served as a warning for other areas and was linked to Rathmines Airbase. The then Principal of Abermain Public School Mr Hugh Lloyd-Owen was the commander of the Abermain branch of the National Emergency Service and he was instrumental in the tower being at this location.
