Commissioned by the Ku-ring-gai Council, this work on the northern toilet blocks of St Ives Showground showcases local native plants and animals. In this work is a Powerful Owl (Ninox strenua), Superb Lyrebird (Menure novaehollandiae), Red-tailed Black-Cockatoo (Calyptorhynchus banksii), Laughing Kookaburra (Dacelo novaeguineae), Australian King Parrow (Alisterus scapularis), Satin Bower bird (Ptilonorhynchus violaceus) and Super Fairy-wren (Malurus cyaneus).
I wanted to create a piece that was captivating and has wide appeal, as if it's a snapshot of the bushland and national park that surround the mural site.
The blurred golden backgrounds are reminiscent of what your eyes do when we focus upon something that captures our attention.
The birds and flowers are prominent in the surrounding bushland and give viewers a glimpse of the inhabitants within.
