Balun

Inspired by the setting of The Alex and the row of paperbark (Melaleuca) trees that can be seen around the area, the artwork takes its detailing from existing nature and flora and magnifies it in the urban context. In Yugambeh language, the title of the artwork translates to 'river', to which the snaking forms take on the colours of the paperbark tree.

I always take into consideration where public works are going to sit amongst its surrounds. I want to compliment and draw on everything that’s already there, especially any sort of flora or nature in a particularly developed area.
