Smiley Grin is among the artist's many original grinning characters who bear a carefree outer shell that dramatically contrasts with the bone-chilling symbol of death underneath — the skull. By intertwining different cultural imageries and exploring American history and popular culture, his work sits comfortably in a humorous yet subversive world of his own making.
