Laneway Mural

The 25-storey artwork of Australian artist Adnate is a breathtaking portrayal of Perth's cultural and community connections. The artist's signature multicultural portraiture is further presented in the laneway mural, with additional input by longtime friend and fellow artist Eric Mangen, and Whadjuk Noongar artist Jade Dolman.

Representing the City's cultural diversity, the artist has depicted four faces, Native American, Maori and Whadjuk Noongar, with the final female figure a tribute to the artist's wife. The highly detailed portraits reflect the artist's interest in indigenous cultures and spiritual connection to place, indicated through the imagery depicted in each character's eyes. Each portrait is painted from a photograph taken by the artist.

The final face in the quartet, the Whadjuk Noongar girl, is artist Jade Dolman's cousin Zara. This final piece of the artwork was created in collaboration with Jade, her signature artwork patterning references the river, waterways, journeys and traditional pathways through the city. Zara's bright face on the mural acts as a renewed connection with the Whadjuk Noongar traditional land. The collaboration represented a pivotal moment in Jade's career, providing an opportunity to work with, and learn from, an established and high profile artist.
