The Bridal Veil

This mural celebrates the photographic legacy of Harry Phillips (1873-1944), who lived and worked in Katoomba from 1908 to 1922.

The photograph, taken in 1909 and reproduced here, is of the Bridal Veil Falls, part of the Leura Cascades. The water running down these falls originates from springs within Kingsford Smith Park, less than 100m from this location.

Harry Phillips gained worldwide recognition as a photographer and printer of souvenir books of the Blue Mountains and Jenolan Caves area, as well as of Sydney, Canberra, Ballarat, and many other regions in NSW and Victoria.

The township of Katoomba acknowledges his contribution to its history.
